About Us

ecommo started with the idea of providing young entrepreneurs (in schools and universities) with the ability to have a professional looking website even though their business is still young and low on capital. Alex had thought about this idea for a while but wasn't able to put this plan into action due to academic commitments.

At this point, Alex had great support from Universities and enterprise foundations regarding the idea.

Enter Len

Len met with Alex to discuss how he could start selling his retail products online. Len owns a small range of pharmacies in Scotland and was losing retail trade to the large supermarkets and other online shops. He wanted Alex to create him an online shop to reach a greater audience. Like many small businesses that we speak to, he didn't have any previous expertise about online selling let alone the knowledge to develop his own website. He even thought about using open source software but it still required Len to hire developers.

Through discussions with Len, we decided to merge his needs and Alex's vision to create a simple, quick and affordable way to sell online. And so ecommo was born.

Enter the experts

Although Alex had the ideas, he didn't really have the ability to build the system that he really wanted (He graduated with a first in Marketing). Thomas was the first expert on the scene, he has extensive experience in programming (BBC and other large companies), joining as our main techy.

We then decided that we really needed a brilliant programmer with matrix style vision. Isaac was the answer to this problem. Isaac helped us create a super fast, super easy system that allowed Alex to build his dream. The result of this is what we today call ecommo.

Our second customer

Len was our first customer, but our second customer, Peter, really wanted to move away from ebay and develop his own identity on the Internet.

Peter was so impressed with what we had created that he wanted to get involved. Peter brings with him years of sales experience and is taking on the task of developing our local expert network.

Where now and where next

Now that we have customers and we are up and running we need to keep our vision for the future alive. We want to create a community of small businesses helping each other increase their online sales. We also want to allow you to swap your products amongst each other so that if you sell bags, you can also sell another ecommo members hats.

These things are built into the ecommo at the base level and we will be launching them when the time is right.

How can you keep up to date

You can keep up to date with what we are doing through our blog and news channels. We will be updating these regularly so keep watching.
